separate d.c. police sources tell me this officer, who i will not name, is under investigation for alleged misconduct with an underage girl. the child was found right here in this apartment. tonight another investigation of a d.c. police officer. sources tell me police served a search warrant at the officer's home today and allegedly removed several cellphones, marijuana, and a laptop computer. a missing 15-year-old girl was also found with the officer after they tracked her cellphone here. police sources tell me they're looking for inappropriate images on the seized devices. neighbors are stunned. >> did you ever think that there was something suspicious? >> i mean, yeah, everybody does you look at him, by him being the age he is and the women he brought in there look a little young. >> in an unrelated case just yesterday a d.c. police officer was arrested and charged with production of child pornography while on duty.

>> now, the officer in this latest case has not been charged but he has been taken off the streets while this investigation continues. he is a 24-year veteran. now, we knocked on his door tonight and no one answered. live here in southeast d.c., i'm shomari stone, news4. tonight new details following a deadly shooting involving d.c. police. investigators identified the victim. they say 19-year-old darius murphy shot them last night on queen street. they returned fire and killed him. police say it happened after a chase down the road. murphy's grandmother lives on the block. she says he was in and out of trouble with the law for some time. to prince george's county where a woman remains hospitalized after a police-involved shooting. authorities were called to this home in hyattsville for mental health welfare check. they tell us the woman inside refused to take her hands out of her pockets and threatened officers with a knife. police say they deployed a stun

gun but it didn't work because she had on several layers of clothing. an officer then opened fire hitting her in the chest. turning to our weather now. a fierce winter storm is coming through the country and bringing heavy snow and cold temperatures. 30 million people in 25 states are effected. some mountain areas are brace for up to two feet of snow. in denver, lows below zero are expected for several days. at least six people have died as a result of this storm. that same system heading our way, and we could start to fee the effects tomorrow, folks. chief meteorologist doug kammerer is letting us know what's in store. >> the interesting thing tomorrow is that we're going to be ahead of the storm. temperatures are going to go way up there. we're talking very warm numbers. look across our region today. we're on the warm side for sure. the rain, snow, and ice. let's talk about the temperatures today. high temperatures in the 50s and

60s. 64 in culpeper. 57 in d.c. 54 in gaithersburg. we'll who way up tomorrow by close to ten degrees. a very warm day on thursday. the roller coaster, that comes later. we go up, we go down, a couple of loops. the rain, snow, and ice moving in on friday. most of it all rain on friday. this weekend we could be in for a winter storm. it could affect us as we head into the weekend. >> thank you, doug. it's been almost a year now since 20 students were shot inside the sandy hook elementary school in new town, connecticut. today a judge released the 911 calls from the day of the shooting. there was a long court battle. families of the victims fought to keep those calls sealed. nbc news chose not to broadcast the calls. in the recordings, you can hear school staff members begging for help to arrive fast. in some of the calls you can hear gunshots in the background.

>> i've been permitted into the washington navy yard. >> today the first wrongful death lawsuit connected to the navy yard shooting was filed in florida. the family of mary francis knight is seeking more than $37 million in damages. they say federal agencies and contractors did not act on red flags about the mental health of navy yard gunman aaron alexis. >> the navy didn't do what they were supposed to do. they didn't follow the rules that are in existence. the va didn't follow the rules that are in existence. if they did, this rattlesnake would never have been allowed under the tent ander in would have killed our beloved mary. >> suit also says navy yard security was lax. alexis killed 12 people before he died in a shootout with police back in september. a life-long career in the white house cut short. the victim spent more than three decades working under several presidential administrations. but a car accident left him

paralyzed and out of work. eri erika gonzalezs has more on his long road to recovery. >> reporter: retirement is the pin knackle of careers. but this isn't how james envisioned his. >> this isn't what you call the golden years. >> reporter: he said he spent more than 30 years working in the white house plumbing shop. >> i was making good money. i had a good crew. >> reporter: and worked under every president from carter to the present but nearly a year ago -- >> i don't remember much many until people showed me pictures. >> reporter: an eight-car pile-up on rockville pike left ham quadraplegic. >> being able to walk again is just something that you've ruled out? >> ms. gonzalez, i hope some day i will. but it would have to be a

miracle. >> reporter: mobt gory county police say the driver was responsible for crossing the median and ramming into him and others. so the state's attorney's office decided not to press charges. he is, however, sue for damages. >> jim was a quarter, three months short, for a requirement for him to receive social security benefits, full benefits. >> reporter: but he still has purpose. how did you survive? why is it that you're here talking? >> because of my wife. she's number one. >> reporter: he tells me one of the most disappointing parts to his story is not being able to finish working the entire extent of the first african-american president's term in office. outside the white house, erika gonzalez, news4. d.c.'s fire chief was not hot seat today as the city council grilled him about the department's equipment issues. the chief testified the city has 100 ambulances, 89 are active, 11 are inactive, meaning they've

been out of service for two months or more. when it comes to fire trucks many are uncertified, according to the chief. that means they can still be used but may not be safe to use. at times during the hearing chief ellerbee had to search for answers to the council member's questions. >> how can you come in today into this hearing and not know -- >> i didn't say i was did not know. >> that's not going to look good on tv. >> it may not look good on tv but that just may be the facts. >> chief ellerbee touted the 13 brand new ambulances that are in service right now but he was unable to tell the council members where those ambulances are in use. you could be paying more for your electric bill if pepco gets its new rate hike. the utility is asking the maryland public service commission to increase the base rates. pepco claims that would add about $5 a month to the average customer's bill in montgomery and prince george's countieses. the money would make up for the

hundreds of millions of dollars it spent to improve reliability. should find out next summer if that rate increase is approved. backlash tonight over new metro ads. some riders claim the posters are sexist. it shows two women, one is talking about metro buses, the other asks, can't we just talk about shoes? there are complaints on twitter and ultraviolet, a women's rights group calling the ads stupid and offensive. one writer doesn't see the point of the campaign. >> i'm a person who is happy but, you know, i like talking about policy and serious issues. >> other riders didn't have a problem with the ads. metro says it is just a light-hearted effort to get people talking about metro's rebuilding efforts. covering prince george's county. tonight the greenwood gaming company says it's ready to fight for its casino proposal. sources tells news4 the bid to build a parks casino hotel and

spa on indian head highway in port washington didconsultants. on friday all three hoping to in the county will meet with the video lottery commission. greenwood vows to make the case for the most beneficial plan for the state of maryland. the community is stepping up in a big way. salvation army has received three big donations to make up for what was stolen from the organization over the weekend. two men broke into the charity's building in southeast d.c. over the weekend. they stole days worth of red kettle collections and made off with more than $10,000. walmart wrote a check to the salvation army for $15,000 to make up for the losses. a local attorney and a foundation also donated $10,000 each. police are still looking for the thieves. next tonight, a disturbing case of animal abuse. how police tracked down the suspects and the new search to find the dog a home. a man visiting the nation's

stolen fedex truck in kansas city, missouri. a man stole the truck while the driver was making a delivery. police were called in and that led to a chase. one of the truck's tires blew out and that eventually slowed the driver down. he was arrested. nobody was hurt. a man visiting his son from serbia spent part of his vacation here in the emergency

room. he says he was attacked on his way to the store off east capitol street in southeast d.c. just a few blocks from home. shomari stone spoke to the victim who is sharing his story tonight. >> he just sort of stunned. >> with his son translating 70-year-old petar sokolavic speaks about the horror he experienced on the east capitol street southeast. >> he's just appalled at the way it happened. >> petars is visiting his son was talking to east capitol around 5:00 yesterday evening. he says a teenager walked across the street, smiled, and said hello, sir. petar said hello, continued walking. then the teen walked up from behind and pounded his head with a metal pole. >> he's just stunned how devious it was. >> then he says the teen laughed as if he just cracked a joke. instead, he cracked petar's head

leaving a three-inch gash and took off running with his friendser leaving petar alone, bloody, and scared. >> it's unspeakable. >> reporter: george brown grew up in the neighborhood and he doesn't like what he sees today. >> you got young kids don't have nothing better to do, just go around do stupid things. >> in southeast d.c., i'm shomari stone, news4. d.c. police tell us tonight they're still investigating but so far no arrests. two d.c. men face felony animal cruelty charges tonight after attacking a bull terrier. a tip led police to the suspects. investigators say they found the dog named mcfly in critical condition near 46th and f streets in southeast back in october. a rescue group took him in and nursed him back to health. mcfly will be up for adoption through the bull terrier rescue league of virginia. tonight the white house is recognizing the incredible sacrifices our men and women in

tomorrow afternoon. the story is going to be how warm we get. i think temperatures tomorrow could approach the mid to upper 60s. some may get near sw70. then the bottom drops out. here comes our cold front on friday. 8:00 in the morning we've got rain across the region. still on the warm ah 60 but as the front moves through our temperatures will drop and look at the cold air moving in here. by friday, expecting a temperature down in the 40s. the rain, a cold rain, rather windy, too. the national christmas tree lighting a little bit worried about that. look back to the west. cold enough to change the rain 66 tomorrow. as i mentioned, a high of 60 on friday. temperatures dropping 41 on saturday. 34 on sunday. back to 52 on monday. i do think we're to see a i think sunday it's going to be cold and messia y.
